ABOUT MR. BOWER
So is Mr. Bower actually qualified to teach me anything?
Well, while some people might say I am old enough to have lived through most of history, I
am licensed to teach in Virginia, just renewed my licensee this summer, and am endorsed to
teach any subject 4th grade through 8th. I have a Bachelor's degree in History and a
Master's degree in Teaching from VIrginia Commonwealth University, where I graduated
Cum Laude. I have been teaching Social Studies at Fluvanna Middle School since 1993, and
have also taught Science, Journalism, Filmmaking, and Web Design
So what eles does Mr. Bower do?
I have been a soccer fan since high school, and was a referee, referee instructor, and referee
assignor through the U.S. Soccer Federation, as well as a referee for the Virginia High School
League. I also coached, and was one of the founding board members of Fluvanna Youth
Soccer Association. Whenever I can, I also love to travel, and you can find tips and resources
here on the site on my Travel Page. I also enjoy running and frequently run 5k races around
Virginia, and you might even see my yellow kayak on the lake when I get time. This summer,
I will celebrate my 40th wedding anniversary, and my two sons are grown, one training dogs
in Charlottesville, and the other repairs industrial robots in Kansas City.
Forget about the other stuff, just how old is that guy?
Well if your research and math skills are up to the challenge, here are all the clues to figure
out just how old I am:
*The Oakland Oaks beat the Anaheim Amigos 134-129 in the first game of the new American
Basketball Associaltion on the day that I celebrated being one year older than the point
differential.
*The first World Series night game was played between Pittsburg and Baltimore on the
birthday where I was 3 years older than the total score.
*Vice President Hosni Mubarak was elected President 2 years after the birthday that made
me elligable to vote according to the 26th Amendment, although I was not elligable to vote
in this particular election.
*On my birthday, the Copiapo mining accident in Chile came to a happy end as all 33 miners
made it to the surface alive. They had been trapped underground 20 days more than the
number of candles on my cake that day.
